WOW! Where has all the time gone? We have been so busy that the school year has just flown by. Well, here we are a few days right before Thanksgiving. We have already had a bunch of marching performances, our fall concert in October, several students participating in the IMEA District Concert Festival at Macomb, and, of course, the Spooky Parade. Now, we are getting ready for the Christmas concerts: Grade School on December 8th and Junior High program with GS Band and Chorus on December 15th. The Grade school program will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Junior High gymnasium. The Junior High program (on the 15th ) will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at the West Theatre at the Nauvoo Historic Visitors Center. Then, poof, the first semester is all over.
Of course our drama class has been learning all about pantomime and the students are getting really good. So good in fact that we are planning a full length musical play for them to perform in the Spring. Look for more on that later.
The guitar class at the Junior High is strumming right along. The students can play around 20 chords. They are also working on trios. Wow! The guys and gals are getting to be pretty good.
We really appreciate all of the help and support our parents and families have provided so far this year. We just couldn't do all the stuff that we do without your invaluable help. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks.
Well, everyone have a safe and joyful Thanksgiving. After the break, we'll update again with a whole bunch of pictures. As always, if you have any questions, give Mrs. Wilson or Mr. Dowell a call.

Start of Another Year
Welcome back all music students. We get to welcome our year-long drama and guitar classes too. That's right folks, we have a year-long drama and guitar class at the JH this year. We are excited about the prospects for what this year is to become.
The chorus is busy working away at their music for the first concert toward the end of October. Check out the calendar for the dates.
The band is working away at its marching and playing skills. They have already marched in the Grape Fest Pet Parade. They are looking forward to the Homecoming Parade and the Parade of Champions.
Everyone - check out the calendar for all of the activities for the year. We have included the Nauvoo Orchestra schedule for those of you involved in it.
Keep checking back to our blog. We will work at giving you a weekly update now that the year is well underway. What do I mean, a month of school is already over and we are looking at mid-terms in the next week or so. So, work hard everyone and keep playing, singing, strumming, and miming.

End of the year
Well, we're in the last few days of school for this year. We have had lots of great adventures. A lot of good music and a lot of new friends made. We hope that everyone has a safe summer. We wish our 8th graders the very best as they begin High School next fall. We look forward to our "new" 8th graders returning AND we look forward to our "new" 7th graders.
Keep your eyes open for the announcements for the new school year and its activities. We'll be posting our new calendar very soon,.

It's March!
Congratulations to those who participated in the Solo and Ensemble Contest! With a high percentage of 1 Ratings, and no ratings less than a 2, we were both pleased with the outcome. We were also pleased with the Kaleidoscope Concert that was held on Thursday night, March 3, which featured selected solos and ensembles that received high ratings. Performances were excellent and there was a nice audience in attendance.
This week [March 14-18] we are asking adults in our school district to test-drive new Fords to raise money for the WNC Performing Arts group. These vehicles can be driven at Carson Ford in Hamilton or at Warsaw High School on Thursday, March 17. If we can get 150 vehicles driven, the group will make $1500+, which will help pay for our Junior High and High School Music trips coming up. Only one driver per household, so please contact relatives, friends, and neighbors (over 18) to help us out!
Speaking of trips, we will be going to St Louis on Thursday, April 14 to the Sheldon Concert Hall and to City Museum. We are in need of adult chaperones for the trip - more information will be coming out soon. In the meantime, check out their websites:

In the meantime - we are making music, getting ready for our final spring concert May 5 - see you then!

Kaleidoscope Recital Concert
Well, we had a very successful solo & ensemble contest last Saturday. We took 31 "I" ratings and 11 "II" ratings with around 50 students participating.
Next on the agenda is our Kaleidoscope Recital Concert tomorrow night, Thursday 3 March 2001 at 7:00 in the NCJHS Gymnasium. We have selected 17 top rated solos and ensembles from the chorus and band to perform for everyone during this Recital Concert. A special treat will be the performance by our two music teachers, Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Dowell, who will conclude the evening with major works on their respective instruments, piano and tuba.
You will want to come early to get a good seat to hear our accomplished student performers. Set time aside now and be sure that you are at the Junior High school for this event.

Solo/Ensemble Contest
Students are beginning to prepare for Solo and Ensemble Contest. The contest will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Baldwin Middle School in Quincy, IL. Students are responsible this year for their entry fees. Solos are $7.00 and Ensembles are $14.00. The cost of an ensemble, of course, would be shared among the performers. A quartet would cost each member $3.50, a duet would be $7.00 apiece, etc. These fees need to be in to Mr. Dowell or Mrs. Wilson by next Friday, January 14, as our registration is due then.
If there this is a financial burden for any student, we have asked that they contact Mr. Dowell or Mrs. Wilson privately so that a solution can be arranged. We do not want any student not performing because the fee is a hardship! Please contact us by phone or email if you student is reluctant to do so, and we will arrange a solution. These fees go to the IGSMA to pay for use of the building, piano rentals, judges, medals, and other costs of running this event.
We hosted this event a few years ago at Warsaw, and we know what a big job it is to get all the details worked out. However, we also know that it is a great learning experience for our young musicians. There is nothing like reaching a goal you have set for yourself, whether it is learning a specific piece that seems impossible at first read-through, or just being able to get up in front of a few people and perform something from memory!
Good luck to all who will be performing! Parents, we hope to see you there supporting your children.
